Opening Keynote: The Harder the Struggle, the Greater the Reward

Robert De Castella, AO, MBE
Founder and Director, Indigenous Marathon Foundation

Since 2010 my Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF), a health promotion charity, has taken 95 young Indigenous men and women from tiny isolated remote communities, country towns and major cities across Australia, on a journey of self-discovery, struggle and triumph.

All have gone from virtually no running to finishing the biggest marathon in the world, the New York City Marathon, in just six months, and through this unleashed a drive, and realisation that they can do so much more than they every realised.

But it is so much more than running with all having completed a Certificate IV in Sport & Recreation, Sports First Aid & CPR, Indigenous Mental Health First Aid Certificate, media and public speaking, and become accredited running coaches.

What motivates and drives them to do something that before 2010 no Indigenous Australian had ever done?

What keeps them going when they hit the wall at 30k and still have 12k to go?

And what can we all learn to make our lives and the lives of other so much better?

Breaking the CEO Code

Craig Johns
CEO & Founder, NRG2Perform

Discover the 3P’s of a high performing leader

In 2013 Craig’s life changed when he found himself flat-lining in a emergency room as a result of going beyond the human limits while working more than 70-80 hours a week, disregarding personal health and well-being, and high levels of stress. The emotional effects on his wife, employees and those closest to him had a profound effect, which led to realising that he needed to be more than a leader of high performance and become a high performing leader.

Your organisation, team or people of influence are directly affected by the energy, stress, mood and focus you arrive with every single day. When CEO’s, leaders and event managers do not proactively plan or manage their energy and stress over time, it leads to a catastrophic effect on the performance and productivity of themself, their company, and their relationships. Craig provides first hand experience in relating Breaking The CEO Code to event stakeholders as he has directed and managed over 300 events, including mass participation endurance events, as well as events such as a Davis Cup Tennis tie.

In the game-changing session Craig communicates

  • 4 fundamentals to being a high performing leader
  • The secret ingredients to sustainable energy and leadership performance
  • How to Break The CEO Code through CEO Periodization, CEO Presence and CEO Performance

In a short period of time India has witnessed a change in the running paradigm. The entire nation’s health and fitness goals have manifested in the form of running.

The top 3 distance running properties in the country have not only played a transformational role in creating a fitness movement but have also built an iconic status making a positive impact on society and its stakeholders.

Brands have used their ethos to connect with what these mass participation properties truly stand for via unique consumer engagement and amplification. These running events hold a unique appeal for communities to fundraise & support multiple charities. Human resource practices have been redefined for corporate India.

This presentation will cover how positioning of a property is central to value creation for stakeholders.

Azran Osman-Rani
CEO, Naluri

Based on his experiences on challenging the status quo and taking on giant incumbents across multiple industries, from capital-intensive and highly regulated sectors to the fast-moving internet technology space, Azran Osman-Rani shares two mindsets that subconsciously hold us back from breaking through our own limitations – the fears we have that some things are not possible, as well as how our past successes can shape fixed beliefs about what can be done. He shares specific elements of building a culture that is curiously and purposeful to relentlessly seek out unmet customer needs through rapid iteration – from hiring and communications, performance management and feedback.

While tens of thousands of people may sign up for a marathon, each marathoner is unique and connect to the event in a personal way. Whether it’s the race course, the brand, a personal goal, a group challenge, athletes can only connect to your event if you know how to talk to them.

We will explore the importance of talking your participant’s language and we will see how this must be achieved by joining forces with expert brands and services. We will share with you what we found to be unique exciting ways to connect with athletes like never before.
